Workshops for Schools

At GirlsCodeToo, we believe that education plays a crucial role in preparing young people for the future. Our workshops provide a structured and encouraging environment where students can explore technology and build the skills needed to participate actively in tomorrow’s digital world.

Our Mission

Reaching students where they learn is essential to closing the gender gap in technology. By bringing workshops directly into schools, we ensure that girls and boys who might not otherwise have access can discover technology in an engaging and accessible way. Through hands-on workshops and dedicated coding clubs, GirlsCodeToo creates opportunities for all students to explore, experiment and develop real digital skills for the future.

Some of Our Recurring Programmes

Technology Days

Technology Days are short, high-impact workshops designed to introduce students to the world of programming and digital creativity. These 2–3 hour sessions can easily be integrated into special school days or project weeks and are an excellent way to spark interest in technology among students who may not otherwise be exposed to it.
Each session includes a short introduction before moving into hands-on activities that make technology tangible and engaging. Our instructors, many of whom are women working or studying in STEM fields, also share their personal journeys, giving students insight into real academic and career paths in technology.
We regularly deliver these workshops through national programmes such as TecDays and GO4IT of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW), and we are happy to bring this format to your school as well.

After-school coding clubs

Our after-school classes run weekly throughout the semester and offer students a consistent space to learn coding in a fun and structured environment, just like any other extracurricular activity. Girls begin with creative programming projects and gradually move on to building and coding robots. This format enables them to develop real digital skills over time and apply what they learn in different contexts, while enjoying a recurring activity they look forward to each week.
We currently run successful coding clubs in two primary schools and are looking to expand our programme to new partner schools!

Course Instructor

” The course that we taught at the school of Kilchberg during the autumn semester of 2023 allowed us to interact with 8 young girls every week, creating a safe space where learning and self-expression were encouraged. As the main organiser and teacher, I could witness the steady progress of the girls who now grasp important programming concepts, such as functions, variables, and for-loops (all of that at the age of 10, this is truly impressive!). Most importantly, we were able to foster a common interest in technology and logical thinking in this course, and crucially experience and interact with technical systems such as the imagiCharm (an LED display) and the Lego Mindstorms robots.”

Characteristic of today’s society, the girls present in this group had different familial backgrounds and not the same familiarity with technology outside of school. Following one of our core missions at GirlsCodeToo, we could empower these girls to discover the world of technology, and hopefully enlarge their vocational interests in a world where women are still underrepresented in technical and scientific fields.
